Anybody Have New Gauges (colored) On A 99-02

Lookin to see what everyone out there has as far as new gauges and colored ones. Did you buy upgrade kits, or a whole new cluster? Also, on my 99, is it trans temp capable?

If mine was trans temp capable, if not, I was either going to get a new cluster or a upgrade kit.

 

Is it possible to open up the clusters and do a changeout? Do not really want to deal with getting it reprogrammed unless I get a trans temp gauge, so I can monitor the trans when towing.

Basically yours should be Trans Temp compatible. I have a 2000 and I purchased a cluster from a 2002 HD and the cluster is plug and play. Just take out 4 screws, unplug your old one, plug in the new one with the temp guage and viola, it works! I had to get the miles transferred and that was almost as expensive as the cluster itself.

 

The only thing I have done to mine is add Blue LEDs to the cluster and it turned out great. I was thinking (maybe) of changing to the white-faced guages but decided against it.

 

Other than that, I would take a look out there on E-bay or even here on this forum to see if anyone is selling a cluster w/Temp Guage. Remember, only 99-02 is compatible with your rig.

If i were you i would get the escalade gauges that fit into the silverado. Thats what i did and i get compliments all the time. They are pricy but by far the classiest looking gauges you can get. I dont like all those aftermarket gauges that make your truck look like an import car. Plus you get the trans temp gauge.

oh what did it cost you to get the miles transfered, and how much did it cost to do the blue leds and where can you get them and how hard is it. The escalade gauges also say that they will not work for 99 and previous but work 00-02. Do they mean the classics, or is mine gay and wont take them.

yeah, thats exactly what i got. I got mine on ebay too but not from that store. It was about the same price. I havent gotten the miles transferred yet so as of right now my truck only has about 8k miles on it. As for your application im not to sure. My truck is an 01. The 99's might have a different wiring issue or something im not to sure. Thats something you would have to contact a dealer for. Hope i helped.

Ok, does anyone know of a tutorial or something to go by for the Blue LED conversion. I want to do my HVAC controls and my gauge cluster. I think ima stay with my set of gauges for now since I plan to get a HD or a NBS. I still want to change over to blue LEDs. I need some pics and part numbers and prices to do it all. Gatorfan, i saw yours on your cardomain page, I like your HVAC ones, but their a little dark for my taste. Do you know if they have a little bit lighter blue LEDs to go more closely with like your cluster leds? Just need some help so i dont F this up.

The mileage is in the actual cluster not the computer. When i put my new cluster in it read 000000 and started from there. Technically what i did was illegal unless you send it in. I talked to a gm dealer and they said the charge is 75$ plus whatever shipping is. You have to send in both clusters i think, or tell them what mileage you have and they will do the transfer to the new cluster. If i ever sell my truck i plan on selling it with the original cluster as well and telling the buyer how much the original reads as well.

Yeah I know some people who would take advantage of that and buy a new cluster and drive around and put the old one in and sell it. I cant wait to do a Blue LED changeout, I hate the green ones, and they will go well with my new blue lighted headunit.

I bought my LEDS from SuperBrightLeds.com for $34.60 ($22.44 for the six cluster leds, $7.16 for the four HVAC leds, and $5 for shipping) The sockets I needed to install the cluster LEDs cost $14.48 (!!). It's not hard at all either. If you have what you need and know what to do, it's super easy.

Those look great that you have thunderstruck, only ? I have is how comes the needles are still orange for the tach and speedo but the rest are blue? Im undecided on what I want to do with the needles, but i want at least the backround numbers etc blue

I think the speedo and tach needles have their own bulbs, while the smaller ones just use the ambient light. Those pics are really strange, the needles really aren't that washed out in reality. They still have a solid yellow color to them.

also on your hvac leds, what do you need to do to work with the heat leds, I saw the blue was workin on the cool side but it was dark on the heat side.
