Front End Squeak

I have a 99 Tahoe 4WD with 86,000 miles. About 3 weeks ago I noticed a squeaking noise coming from my front wheels between 15-30 MPH. The noise does not change when I hit the brakes, take it out of gear or go over bumps But it does go away when I put it in 4WD.

The noise reminds me of my 70 Chevelle when I had a loose front bumper.. squeak..squeak...squeak..

I am not really a truck guy and know little about 4WD. Could this be a bearing or CV joint going bad?

Safety clip on the front breaks? How much life is left on the brake pads?

Bearings give a whiring sound and progressively get worse at higher speeds. You would tell if it was a CV joint in the turns,as they would clunk pretty badly. I'm perplexed why it goes away in 4X4.
