Do many of you drive in areas like this?

Was out checking how our oats were doing (see very bottom pic), and how one hay field was coming back after its last baling (not good) this afternoon.  To get to these fields, we have a path through the corn we had to run over, a short stretch at least.

Bet not many of ya have done this before (and you better not without good reason!!).

Given new construction in downtown Detroit, I'm seeing some rather scenic detours on my daily commute.  I don't think stopping to take pictures would be such a great idea.  I should snap a picture each day of an abandoned SUV being dismantled bit by bit.

:D No kidding.  Treating the red lights as stop signs is usually a good idea in those areas too  ;)

Quite regular actually.  Although we don't have corn.

I wish I had a site ready so I could post pics. :D

Jp, your truck actually looks clean! Hey could you please explain this to me,  what exaclty is a quarter of land, how much land is a section, and finally how many acres are in a section?

Posted

A quarter of land is 1/4 mile by 1/4 mile square and a whole section is 1 mile by 1 mile square.  I can't really remember how many acres are in a section so jp will have to help you out on that one. :D

One section/square mile is 640 acres.  Do the math and half section is 320, quarter section 160.

Oh, and the truck did get cleaned!  A friend wanted to use it last Sunday to move, so it got a wash both outside and inside, even a vacuum job!  Hasn't rained in a long time here, so no mud has yet gotten on it, just some more cow pies.

I knew it was somewhere around 600. :)

I know what you mean by no rain.  I just talked to my bro last night and dad asked him if we could come home to help him chop silage since, our corn hasn't had any rain on it for a month now.  So dad has to turn it in to insurance.   :D I just hope he gets some rain soon so the rest of the crops don't suffer.

Been through fields like that a bunch. Even without the road once, just mowwing down corn with an old Ford Courier one night.

(Disclaimer: I was not driving, Field owned by driver's father. :D )

from the pic it doesn't look too bad...is it sticky or deep mud?

No mud, no nothing.  Just driving through a cornfield, something I wouldn't have thought many people would have done.

Basically, I thought it was a pretty cool pic and I wanted to share it.
