I believe the last time I changed fluid in my 05 5.3 Sierra it was 4.5 to 5 quarts.

May the force be with you,

I think you are correct with 5 qts. Somehow I was thinking 7 but that is my wifes SUV.

Some people bend the linkage out of the way. I removed mine. You will need a torx bit that will fit on a 1/4 or 3/8 ratchet and you will find the torx screw head on the top meaning you have to come in from the top to get to them. Sorry, I cannot remember what size they are. Not a big deal.

Do you have a drain plug? If so, be sure you have a good quality 6 pt Impact style socket on a 1/2 drive pull handle before you start. Make sure it is fitting on the plug good and square and if it begins rounding the corners, stop. If it does this, you will need a propane torch to apply a small amt of heat to the plug to break the factory installed thread locker.

I bend mine. It only needs to be a small amount. Iam not sure but you could probably leave it that way without problem. Mark. I use Mobil 1.
