Has Anyone Put A Cam In An Afm 07 5.3l Engine?

I am looking to put a cam in my truck. I would like to know if anyone has put a cam in an AFM truck yet. If so what was involved? Do the 4 AFM lifters need changed? Surely it cant be a straight swap out. What has everyone done so far?

I know a guy that did it on the 6.0, he just got rid of the AFM things that are on there and order lifters and everything needed, but as of this point no one makes a cam for a AFM 5.3, but talking to comp cams they are looking into this and hopefully would have something out withing 4 months.

I actually get better gas mileage in my 06 impala ss with AFM disabled. That system runs on its computer but thats more processing that has to be done. I did the testing for diablo on the tunes last year and when AFM was turned off the car has a night and day difference in pickup. On average AFM is only suppose to increase mileage by 6 - 8%. A good tune and SMART driving will get better mileage any day. Filthy rich is saving money anywhere you can and GM telling us we can save money with their system is a load

of #&*$! If they want fuel economy tune these vehicles like they should be and dont fill them with needless parts. *steps down off of soap box* sorry about that I got side tracked.

Actually AFM is really good for Freeways, where that difference is felt on long runs. the 6-8 percent is more on the streets, but at freeway speeds and at constant 65mph cruise control and a level road should save you about 50%. Now this is in theory.

since half the engine is off, and if it stays off the whole trip you wuold benifit. But since its not possible and it only stays off for 30% of the trip then you would see gains in mpg around the 20% range.

I wasn't talking about AFM but bigger cams. The vehicle your talking about will never pass MFR's required emission requirement by the CAFE testing procedure.

I have a 5.3 with AFM, too me it's just more junk I had to pay for. Considering I'm getting 15.5mpg on 100% highway driving on a tank - on the last tank I stopped at a stop sign twice and the rest was cruise on flat ground.....

To me I really don't see how AFM helps anything - at highway speed on flat as can be ground with the cruise set at 75mph it never goes into V4 mode.

Throw in the fact you can get an '07 classic with the same engine minus the AFM and get better mileage...I just don't see it.

Guess it depends on where you live. Never once in my life have I had any emissions test other than to see if my gas cap fit down tight. EVER.

I guess your not from California Are you. Out here they probe the vehicle then they probe you. Danm tree hugger state.

Considering I have a MS in Forestry and run a forestry company that does a lot of logging - I'm guessing it's a good thing I don't live in CA.

ok nice rants on AFM. If you dont have flat ground its of no real benefit. I know the cars (impala) with AFM they make cams and the trucks have almost the same engine in them. It is a pretty straight forward swap out. I cant figure out why nobody wants to touch the "M" code engines. Take magnuson for example. The SC is only for the "J" code engine. Why is everyone afraid of the trucks aluminum engine when the cars are not a problem?

You mean to tell me that 5.3 Impala has a aftermarket cam. Show me the link please.
