Pitman And Idler Arm Replacement

Tahoe front end was knocking and loose when wheel turned. Problem lasted about two years before I decided to get it looked at. After doing some research on here, I figured it was either the tie rod ends, pitman arm or idler arm (or all of the above). Just wanted to let ya'll know that you provide great information. The problem ended up being the pitman and idler arm needed to be replaced. Truck feels great now. I ended up paying $588 for everything (which seemed pretty steep after looking up the parts online and I could've bought the parts for about $200). Was going to tackle this myself, but figured I would leave it to a pro. Question: My alignment feels like it might be a little out of whack. Is it typical to have an alignment done when the pitman and idler arms are replaced? Thanks for the input and I love the site.

I have a 1990 GMC Sierra that I am replacing the steering components now. What size is the nut that holds the pitman arm to the steering box. I have to buy one tomorrow to finish the job...Thanks, Joe

An alignment is not routine after replacing the pitman arm and idler arm, but it cant hurt anything. The truck feels different now because you replaced those worn items with new ones, the alignment is done by adjusting the tie rod ends to a specific to in angle.

Anytime you do any work on your front end aside from changing the shocks or brakes get an alignment or make sure there is no toe in or out
