Lowered (leveled) Gmt900

Installed 2" drop shackles today. Had to remove the trailer hitch and jack up the bed to remove the shackle bolts. 2 hour job but very pleased with the results. Amazing how 2" made such a big difference in reaching items in the bed from the side and passenger entry is eased. Might be my imagination but it seems to ride and corner better.

 

The dropped height still left the rear 1" higher in the rear (measured from fender well to pavement) so the gas mileage should remain the same 'cause it's still headed down hill.

I have to figure out which direction to go with mine. Much better look on yours.

 

I have not decided on the shackles or remove the leaf spring blocks. Either way, I want to level out the truck.

A search on this forum (and your own observation) will show where the spring block removal will only give you about 1-1/8 inches of drop and I considered this and it may be enough for you. I needed a comfortable reach from bedside and standing on a 2" step simulated the desired change in height. For about the same money as buying more u-bolts (more effort though) the shackles worked better for me. And if you want lower you can always take out the blocks. I also like the look, but it was a bonus.

 

I know I have lost a little payload because of the loss of spring range, but my payloads are generally under 1000lbs. If I see that she squats too much I may saw off the bottom segment of the bumber stop above the axle to give it another inch of travel before bottoming.

That looks better. I think GM went just a little bit crazy with the rake on the new trucks, but I am sure there was some reason for it.

I just averaged 18.5 after my RC and I took the lower Airdam off

well I check it both ways the airdam affects the milage worse then the RC lift

about 1 for the dam and 1/2 for the RC. but there might be some winter gas effect too

not sure untill spring when I take the lower plow mount off and put the dam back on
