Clock Spring

I have a 2005 GMC Serria 1500 Truck club cab. I was told by GMC that my clockspring was broken and has to be replaced. As I don't have the 850 or 900 dollars to have it repaired I am willing to try it myself.

But I need some advice on the correct way to do it. If possible detailed advice. I can get a steering wheel puller and the Clock Spring. I just am not sure of the correct procedure. I got to this point by lubing the steering intermittant shaft and was not told to keep the steering wheel locked in place. If anyone could help or point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.

Don,

Sorry to hear of your problems. You can find the Clock Springs in the Aftermarket from Dorman. Not sure where you are located but we (CARQUEST) sell them as well as O'Reilly.

I cannot help you with the installation as I have never done one myself.

Do you have the steering wheel controls? If not, I have a clockspring from my 06 that was removed at 1 year. I added the steering wheel radio controls. If you need it, let me know. I'll let it go fairly inexpensive and I guarantee that it works.

As for removing the wheel, it's not a big deal and you might not need a wheel puller. I was able to get mine off by wiggling it up and down. I replaced the spring on the column first and routed each wire individually as I removed each of the old wires. This allowed the wire routing to be exact as factory.

Hello,

I have an 06 almost identical to yours color and all. I installed the steering wheel with controls and wiring harness, then I carried it to a dealer and they attempted (LOL) to reprogram it and when I went to pick it up they wanted to charge me about 700$ well I did talk them down to 300 as that was the last figure they told me anyway. How did you get it reporgrammed and what did you have to tell them.

Hopefully I canget it working
