'08 Sierra Oem Intake

Hi there,

 

 

I really got confused when I checked out the intake tube in my '08 5.3L Sierra..

It has this wierd look with those extra 'stuff' attached to the main tube

 

Could anyone here explain to me why is it formed in such shape?

I wonder if I replaced it with an aftermarket intake (which will have regular tube) will it have any negative impact or wouldn't help much improving MPG/HP gains?

I replaced mine with an AirRaid MIT. I think the stock setup muffles the sound of the intake.

baffels / sound dampener - for those who dont appreciate the sound of american horsepower ..

 

i have the air-aid MIT and it is alot noiser than stock ...

sound of american horsepower is to me like relaxing songs in a thai massage place!

 

I wonder how the sound will be if cut out & sealed those sound mufflers?

 

Do those mufflers affect MPG/HP gains?

remember how when you were a teenager and your knuckleheaded horsepower buddies were flipping the air cleaner lids on dads 455 buick? a true symphony of horsepower sound! forget about the carb ice this created on humid days.

anyway, corporate knows most people dont want to hear this "annoying" sound but is selling a cold air intake to give those of us who do like it the chance to "hear the music".

todays 5.3/6.0's make beautiful music. dont be sucked in by horsepower/mpg claims as the music will have you keeping your foot down more often.

i like my k@n fipk but they are all good for sound and if you are disciplined, you may see 1-2 mpg on the hwy.

Be very carefull with that, it's not a intake thats a alien time machine!
