Hd Or Not To Hd

Needing some help, bought a used 2001 GMC 2500 6.0L 4x4 long box. First "newer" truck I have owned; and it doesn't have any badges on it so I don't know if it's a HD or just a plain old 2500. Any help in determining what it is would help before I go out and buy a lift.

8 lug rims

2 batteries

6.0L Vortech

Thanks in advance

I don't know. Try sending your vin to MS3DALE. He uses software and can get the build sheets for your truck. Also off the top of my head try looking in the glovebox. I think on the sticker in there it has what the truck is.

Checked the glovebox, it shows cargo capacity at 2145lbs. So I would guess I am a 1 ton. Now the question is do I have a 6.0L High Output or just a plain old 6.0L. Any other tricks you got off the top of your head.

Thanks for the help BJD3.

sounds like its a HD to me. if its a 2500 then its a 3/4 ton. in that year i believe the only thing similar would be a 1500HD. but if your sure its a 2500, id say you have a 3/4 ton HD.

I hope it's a 2500HD, I will see if I can make it to a delership soon and have them run the VIN. I need to know what I have before I try to change a bunch of stuff.

Thanks for the help.

The sticker on the door says 9200lbs; so 2500HD 3/4 ton!!

I sent Stratosman the VIN we'll wait and see what he comes up with.

TedR; Snow Plow package; huh, anything you know of I should look for that might confirm that?

If I remember correctly in 2001 there were 3 3/4 tons. The 1500 HD the 2500 LD and the 2500HD. I'm about 95% sure all three were produced that year.

Just look on the inner door sticker. 2500 = 8600 GVWR, 2500HD = 9200

Justin is correct if the GVW is 9200 it is an HD. The HD sits higher in the front. There should be a 2" spacer between the bumper and body. The big difference is the HD has a full floating rear axle. With the hub cap removed you will see the axle cover bolts.
