Anyone Know Ohm Value Of Aftermarket Iat Resistor

I've tried these before without noticing any adverse effect. My brother just paid $10 for one for his 2007 Silverado with the 4.8. I think the value is 5.5K ohms. I realize the gains quoted on the internet are rediculous but it might help with throttle response if nothing else. Does anyone know the ohm value for optimum performance seen across the IAT on my 2007 5.3L?

 

PS: I'll go down to radio Shack and get one for .50 cents

I bought one off Ebay, havn't installed it. Paperwork says 3.3Kohm.

If you unplug your IAT sensor the computer will think its 32 degrees, which creates a rich fuel mixture, and will advance timing a couple degrees. should give an increase in power and mpg. With it unpluged and no resistor, svc light will come on. This is just what I read and don't know validity of it but it is extremely cheap even if gains are small.

So yours is a 5.3L 2007 & instructions say it's a 3.3K ohm resistor? Ok what are the color stripes in order on the side of the resistor?

Sorry. Yes I do have a 2007 nbs 5.3L. I just double checked and the paper work does say 3.3Kohm. I can scan the instructions and see if they will post legibly, If you need me too. Good luck.

My brother said it was the only 2 pin connector under the engine cover on his 4.8. Probably takes 10 minutes taking your time with only one nut holding the cover down and disconnecting the battery. Install that sucker and verify please.

A buddy of mine just installed one of these things. My knee-jerk reaction was that it's a waste, and I still think so, but he swears that he can feel a difference and that his mileage went up. However, if you're going to do this wouldn't it be a good idea to run a higher octane fuel as well?

That is a really cheap resistor. Actually the colors should read Orange, Orange, Red, gold. I am 99.9% sure 3.3K (or 3300)is correct, the gold indicates a tolerance I believe of 5%. That also looks like a 1/4 Watt model as well. If the power across is more it will heat up and fail. If this being installed under the hood and see high Temps it could fatigue it as well. You might want to think about a precision grade and more Wattage resistor, they do not cost much..........

I doubt it will fail due to overload in the IAT circuit, but if it does you will get a svc eng light and know where to look.

 

Maybe a higher octane would work better but without checking a/f ratio who knows.
