Is there any reason this won't fit or anything special I will need to make it fit? I have seen pics on here of it installed so I'm sure it will work, but the Crutchfield website says it will not fit. Please help! Its already ordered!

Hey,It will work i put mine in my truck.the only pain in the >>> part is fitting all the wires and the GM box back there.the dash is also hard as heck to take off compared to the classic body style silverados.

Thanks, did you have to get any special brackets or anything? I got a little nervous after I ordered it and then the Crutchfield sight said it wouldn't go.

I got worried about the clearance after I ordered mine too. Crutchfield is sorta right in that it wont fit totally flush into a stock 07. Depending on what brand of dash kit you use, you may just be able to install the D3 to where it sticks out a little bit farther than flush from the front of your dash.

I chose to make it fit as flush as possible, and in order to do that I had to do some trimming inside the dash. Also I have the ltz interior so that may be slightly different than what you have since the dash is different in other trim levels. I had to trim some plastic from behind the radio: a piece that doesnt do anything structurally but runs from left to right behind it.

Also removed one or two screws in which the heads were pushing against the back of the d3. They didn't seem to need to be there either. I used a metra dash kit, and also did some trimming on that to actually allow the radio to sit farther out (toward the driver) to gain some clearance. Mostly the left side of the d3 is where the clearance problem is. I might not have needed to do this If i felt like trimming more away from the truck.

Depending on your dash kit, you may just decide to let the d3 stick out a little bit. We are not talking about a lot here, probably less than 1/2 inch. It just takes some time to trim out to gain that much depth.

BTW I used a set of side wire cutters for plastic trimming, but a set of end nippers would also be handy.

Thanks. Did you choose to keep your steering wheel controls or door chimes and stuff? If so, what did you do with those harnesses? I know the steering wheel one has a big box on it. Is there room to tuck it away in the dash somewhere? I have no problem with it sticking out a little, but I don't want it out 2" or something like that.

hey man, i have one in my truck and its flush and good to go. i have the deck, the gm box/wiring harness and the bluetooth addition box all crammed in there, along with rcas from my subs, and the wiring from my ps2... its sooooooo tight. i took the box and most of the wiring and crammed it down through the opening in the dash (behind where the deck sits), then i velcroed my bluetooth box on top of the deck, its a squeeze but it fits. also, after you have ur deck out, the bracket or what ever you want to call it that holds the dash together inside, there is 2 bolts on the top of it (with 9/32nds heads) i took those out, and put 1/4'' washers between the bolt, and the dash bracket (so it would space it back a little bit, in order for the deck to clear it) and everything is fine. its kinda scary when you open the dash up then look at everything you have to fit in there lol... but best advice is keep everyhting organized, really plan out how you cut/trim all of your wires b4 you soilder/heat shrink them, so they arent bulky or to short/long for where everything needs to sit, and after you get everything all together, plug it all in and test it! if it works, tape up all the wires in a nice bundle and shove em down in the dash! haha

and theres no way it should stick out, especially a half inch! thats huge! if it isnt flush keep trying something else, i mean its a nice truck and a nice deck, i wouldnt stand for anything other than a perfect install on it.

Yes, I used a Peripheral unit for the steering wheel controls, and the metra box for retaining onstar, chimes, etc. That box also gives navigation outputs for the speed and reverse signal. I shoved some of the wires in behind the Nav unit, but I think I put the metra box in behind the A/C controls. But I'm not sure if you have the LTZ or not. If you dont then you might not have that extra space behind the a/c. The only reason I was able to do that is I left the wires long, basically just soldiered together both harnesses and left them full length.

I'm sure you will have plent of room with either dash though.

    • The guy that owns K&P filters last I checked in with him has over 300,000 miles on his Dodge base Hemi using his own 35 micron absolute stainless mesh filter from its first oil change.    The GM study I've posted a dozen times shows the relationship in engine life based in multiples of base units, not miles or years. That is the base unit is the number of miles the motor ran using the reference filter efficiency.    The above two paragraphs dismantle anecdotal arguments IF one changes oil often enough to prevent particle formation and the motor is in otherwise good shape. That is not full of silica (no air filter) or suffering a metallurgical issue that is not part of the lubrication discussion. Poor heat treat in example.   Data from UOA's I've reviewed from more than a few engines can show remarkably broad variations in oil cleanliness using the exact same filter over the course of an engines life.     Lastly there is the common sense of it. Wear debris WILL circulate the engine BEFORE it ever sees a filter in route to that filter and WILL harm the pump which NEVER sees filtered oil.    Alpha question then becomes, given the facts, how long do you believe is a reasonable service life from a vehicle you are certain you will not pass down? That is the junk yard will be it's resting place when you're done with it? (the moral issue most don't care about).    Omega question is then how diligent are you prepared to be in general mechanical, air & oil maintenance? Preventing particulates and keeping them sufficiently dilute; preventing the precursors from generation, amalgamation and precipitation.    If I get a good look at the engine bay of a vehicle I have a fair idea of the owners commitment to the inside of the power train. That 30 micron WIX is still more efficient than a sieve.
    • It also depends on what criteria someone is using for “best” when talking filters.  Are we going off best efficiency?   Best quality/QC?  Etc. because the two may not mutually exclusive.
    • They’re not the same wiz as 10-15 years ago.  QC has fallen pretty hard.  The XP line was never good though in the first place.    https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/wix-filter-rusted-through.386492/post-6991372   https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/i-ve-used-my-last-wix-filter.27299/   https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/looking-for-a-better-replacement-for-wix-51258.403977/   https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/convince-me-in-using-the-purolator-boss.401537/post-7420147   the forums are littered with posts and examples of not great wix filters the last couple years

    • I'd guess that it's because they are Mann-Hummel filters since about 2016, they own Wix and are mostly all made in China now.
