Nitto Terra Grappler At Tires?

Recommended Posts

I'm in the market for new tires (285/65-18) to pair up with my new Center Line wheels and came across a decent deal on these Nitto's. The vast majority of the reviews I've read have been positive. The few negatives I've read about usually pertain to rapid wear, too loud, or tough to balance properly. Interested to hear opinions (especially from current or past owners) good and bad. Would you buy them again? Thanks in advance.

A company I work with has sold a ton of them over the last few years. Other than normal balance issues with tires this size on custom wheels, the only real complaint has been that they didn't last as long as some hoped they would. Otherwise most seemed to like them pretty well. Does Tirerack.com have reviews on them? They usually have really good info there.

Unfortunately TireRack doesn't appear to sell the Terra Grapplers as I could not find any info on them on their site. I've mostly been reading reviews from a variety of different enthusiast sites and most people seem to like them. They look almost identical to the Toyo Open Country AT tires which makes sense since Toyo is the parent company if I'm not mistaken.

On the right wheels, they sure do look good. Too bad Tirerack doesn't sell them. Their reviews are a source of really good information.

Just a suggestion. 265-70-18 looks just as beefy, has the same height, and is available in a lot more tires. Might be worth a look on Tirerack just to see what is there.

I have 305/50R20 Toyo Open Country AT's and love them. They ride really well and nice and quiet, considering. You'll have a bit more sidewall so you'll be fine with them if that's the way you choose to go.

I liked my 285/75/16 Terra Grapplers so much on my '02, I bought a second set when they wore out. They lasted about 30-35k miles before they got close to the wear indicators, and I'm horrible about rotating them. Dry traction is great, wet traction is above average, mud traction is non-existant, but they are stellar in the sand. Never had any problems balancing them, and they were nowhere near as loud as BFG A/T's or the Bridgeston Duellers.

I'd buy another set in a heartbeat.

Thanks for that Mike. I am particularly glad to hear you say they do well in sand since that is important to me. Living on the coast near the ocean, my wife and I drive on the beach almost every weekend in the spring and summer.

Well I was in the market to for some 305/70 Nitto Terra's, but they guy at Tire Rack said that the compound is so soft that they will last half about as long as a set of BFG A/T. So thats what I made my parents buy me. He said that he owned a pair and said he would not recommend them to anyone.

I had a set of 295/70/17 on my old titan. When I sold the truck, they had about 30k on them. I would say they would have went to 40k, no problem. I would and probly will buy a set for my silverado this spring. Good tire for the money.
