i had to replace the rear output shaft for the adapter to bolt up the landcruiser t-case.

after all is back together, no extra parts and feel pretty comfortable about everything, it will shift into reverse, but when throttle is applied it doesn't move. seems to slip, but no noise and in 1st gear(haven't been able to drive it to check all other gears) it feels good and will powerbrake in place.

i am not a auto tranny guy, but i do consider myself a competent tech.

any and all suggestions would be great.

common questions:

sun gear broken=no reverse, 2nd, 4th--apeared to be in good shape when reassembled

all balls in proper place--according to diagram online the balls are in the correct place

Man, you might want to just talk with a local power train guy. Wish I could help, sorry.

with the vehicle on jackstands it shifts through all the forward gears to OD. watched the scan tool to confirm shifts while it felt it. when shifted into reverse with no load it will rotate the tires, but when load or throttle is applied it seems to slip(no noise)

Sounds like the Sun shell. It may not have be broken but what it stripped ?

I'd have to go with the sunshell as well..............I just had a fesh rebuild of my tranny not more than a week ago.......the shop kept all the parts to show me.......the sun shell was worn down so much that there were just about no teeth/grooves left........shop said reverse would have failed at anytime if i had kept driving it.

the plan is to pull the tranny and disassemble to check everything. now that i have some idea for what to look at.

any other suggestions, or support of the same theory as already stated would be very helpfull.

Not sure what the milage is on your tranny but if you are going to tear it down, might as well rebuild it........with the fresh tranny in my truck its UNBELIEVABLE how much better its shifting..........feels like im driving a different truck.
