What Do You Guys Think I Should Do?

Hey everybody i was wondering what you guys think i should do? i bought an 07 sierra classic nov 25 of 06 and already my front bumper had rust spots all over it, i took it to the dealer last July and the service manager came outside and said this was normal and rubbed it off with this chrome bumper cleaner stuff, i will admit that the bumper was clean for a few months but now i noticed that it is back and even worse now and more of it, shouldn't something like that be covered under warranty to have a new one installed or shouldn't they have it taken to a detailer to have the bumper professionally buffed i would like to know why they keep rubbing this stuff on and sending me away, and why should i have to keep puttin on this compound every month, sorry for the rant.

If warranted, what are they going to replace it with? This is the state of sheet metal now. Rub some stuff on it and wax it. It's the state of the art.

Kelly, rust issues on new trucks are not something the dealers are going to really give a sh!t about. I just had my painted steel wheels (less than 1 year old) to the dealer for rust forming around all the "ovals" and the tech scrubbed and polished most of the rust off and sent me on my way.

I know it will come back, and most likely it'll be worse. But I guess I'll have to start waxing polishing after every road salt episode.

The painted bumper on the Chevrolet was the deciding factor on me purchasing the GMC with chrome bumper as standard. This doesn't help you. Just a fact.

The painted bumpers are notorious for rust at every chip. Just keep waxing it. If there is a rust warranty (and others may correct me) it is rust from the inside out.

I would opt for purchasing a chrome front bumper. Either new or salvage yard.

I have had painted bumpers in the past and I have had them repainted by a good body shop. And that did work for a long while - extra quality paint. But the cost is about the same as purchasing a new chrome bumper.

I bought a 2007 Sierra in November and it too now has rust on the front bumper. My dealer actually pointed it out to me and has already offerred to replace it. Since the dealer was so quick to point out the problem I suspect this may be a wide spread issue.

I have since noticed the back bumper has rust too.

The truck has only 4900km (3000 miles) and no other rock chips or marks on the front.

I figure it must be a bad batch of chrome, maybe GM outsourced the bumpers.

Since you have an 06 you may be 0L as they say. Depends if anything is left on your warranty. If so, complain. But really there isn't a whole lot you can do - every car I have ever had has had the chrome bumpers rust, and the older ones weren't any better.

Polish, buff, and coat them with a very thin coat of some kind of protector. Used to be in the winters ppl would use grease but that could get ugly fast. These days the answer is to buy a bumper bra - there are plenty of nice ones available for GMT 800s.

My truck is an 07 classic with only 37,000kms on it i have only had it for a year and 3 months, i noticed this problem just recently in September not even a year of owning it, the dealer apparently said that they will not replace it unless the bumper is pitted then they would replace it, but since it is only surface rust i have to buy the 12 dollar bumper cream every month and buff the sh!t out of it just so it looks normal for a new truck. i mean how flippin takky is that, these dealers sure will bend over backwards to sell you the d**n vehicle but once you show back up with a problem they don't even remember you name.

it does suck to hear about it but it does happen, you have to keep maintaining it well, wash it good when you wash the truck, and wax it when you wax the body also. If its very bad well I guess you can either get it painted to match or get another one off ebay & keep up on the maintainence on it.

Chrome painted anything will look like crap very quickly unless you pay alot of attention to keeping it clean and polished. Just the way it is.

Its rediculous for the dealers to tell you to polish the bumper each month! These are new trucks, bumpers don't rust after 3 months unless there is something wrong with the chrome. My '03 Suburban bumper looks fine, I only wax it once a year! My brother's '04 Sierra bumper is fine, I don't think he even waxes it!

These vehicles are driven in the same road conditions as my new Sierra.

You got to be kidding!!

One buys a brand new truck for over 45000.00dollars and should paint the bumper or buy one on eBay?????

Maybe General Motors should stop buying cheap bumpers in China and get GOOD bumpers with GOOD chrome!

It amazes me how some people are "so brand commited" that they are willing to overlook every thing wrong with their "baby".

Small wonder the American producers are in big trouble. I owned a brand new Ford once and all the paint came of the cab within one year.

They refused to do anything about it.

When they treat you like THAT they deserve to be OUT of bussiness.

Are you suprised Asia is taking over the automobile industry? I'm not!

Seems to me you have a good dealer.

They are hard to find these days, specially in larger cities where they DON'T depend on repeat customers.
