Alright im not sure of what alternator i have but at stop lights or if i let my truck warm up, it will rev up, and go down, rev up ...... and when i watch the volt meter its all over the joint.

Does that mean its the alternator not giving enough juice?

i have just the 4x4 version not the z71 so does anybody know how many amps its putting out?

btw its not going bad i dont think it starts like a champ every morning.

if your voltage rugulator is failing, and the alternator is actually being loaded and unloaded, this could explain the rpm change. If the engine speed change at idle is the result of something else, like the idle air motor or something, then you are simply seeing the result on your dash guages. Hook up a good VOM at the battery or at the alt while it is doing this, if it is jumping from static battery voltage to 13 or more than I would say it is time for an alternator. Get one with 120 amps next time with all the light you have

Would dual batteries help?

or not really because the alternator is still trying to keep up?
