Yet Another Thermostat Question.

Just hooked up a new Hypertech Max Energy box to my 2005 Sierra 1500 4x4 (for tire size correction and slight tune). Noticed a "little" detonation right after I programmed it, but the computer seems to have compensated for it. In a previous life, I put 250k on a 95 Suburban with a Hypertech towing chip, a 160 degree stat and a hi-flow K&N intake setup. Should I drop a 160 degree stat into this truck? I believe Hypertech spec'd the tune with a 160 degree stat, so it makes sense. If anyone out there has any before/after 160 stat advice with the Max Energy installed, please post. I'd like to get an idea of whether or not the cooler stat is going to drop my MPG dramatically even though I've got the tune installed (in theory it should, and did so in my 'burb, but I wasn't paying 3 clams per gallon of gas then either). I do mostly surface street driving, so I'm getting around 15.3 MPG.

FYI:

 

Official response from Hypertech support was that they *do not* recommend installing a 160 degree thermostat on any 2002 or later 5.3ltr GM's. They cited excessively reduced gas mileage, and also that the 160 degree stat will cause the check engine light to come on. They said that if a cooler stat was desired, to not install one lower than 180.
