Which Rear End?

Hi Everyone...glad to be a new member here. I'm an older guy and LOVE the older Suburbans. Especially the '90 & '91's. I just bought my 4th one and it is being shipped. It's a '91 and I don't know if it has a limited slip or what yet. I would like to have limited slip. I prefer the 2WD models for the ride even though I live in the Wisconsin snow country. If, when it arrives, it does not have a limited slip...what do I get? I don't like the locker's just the limited slip. What's the code for limited slip...G86? Did they have those in '91? If so, I guess I could just get one of those and put it in. Who manufactures the limited slip rear end for Chevy? Are there better non-locking units out there? I am also wondering if the limited slip units can be used with any rear end gearing that might be in the rig I bought? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I like the big, tough newer Burbs! :banghead:

Is your 91 a 1/2 or 3/4 ton Burb? Not sure about 91, but the G80 is the limited slip in my 02 1/2 ton.

Like Boss recommended, the Detroit Truetrac is a good choice. Randy's Ring and Pinion have been good to me. Their site lists the various lockers and limited slip differentials available for your truck.

My burb is a '91, 1/2 ton Silverado. The common LSD in those is the G80. Hey Ron...THANKS for the great link! I had no idea that there were so many different units available out there for these 'ol burbs. I was drawn to the Tru-Tech unit because of the worm gear technology. I know nothing about the company or this product but the tecnology seems to make more sense than the clutch designs. Seems like everyone would go that way, though, if it was way superior. I don't make ANY decision without a TON of research so...looks like I have a couple of tons to go on this LSD decision.

Thanks, everyone, for your help. Any experiences with that Tru-Tech unit...or any others... will be greatly appreciated.
