20" Wheel Pitting

Recommended Posts

I'm seeing some pitting and corrosion damage on my '07 Sierra nbs 20" wheels. It'd showing up in the smaller gray painted areas around the wheel. The truck has only been on the road for 6 months and I try to spray them off every 1-2 weeks to avoid salt build-up.

Anybody else have this and is this covered by warranty?

Dealer told me the pitting is caused by the acid cleaner used in most commercial car washes and advised me against it. On the rare chance I use a car wash, I tell the kid to skip the rims. No pitting. Unfortunately, I do not believe there is any way to repair pitting.

the same on my wheels. I have 30 000 km on them

I sprayed my wheels with crown rust profing stuff for the winter. No salt sicks on them. I don't know how hard it will be to clean the stuff off this summer

I have some dark stains that I can't get off.Doesn't really feel like pitting though but I think we're talking about the same thing.

replace em if they are defective, but in most cases, it is usually user error (either the owner, car wash), only time I have seen GM replace them under warranty is when they were proven to be protected and stil pitted.

My truck has 5400 miles on it and had brake dust on the inside corners of the spokes, even after cleaning them by hand they are stained and pitted. I just returned from the dealer about 20 minutes ago and showed them the pitting on the two front rims, they have two new wheels on order for me and it's covered under warranty.

Laga a user on this forum had pitting on his chevy 20's and the dealer is replacing them all.

The dealer just took a few photos of the pitting and slapped on 2 new rims. I'll be watching the other 2 very closely and replace those ASAP if there is any pitting.

Its an unfortunate flaw of the 20" wheels. You can work hard to keep it from happening, but no one really ever has that kind of time or patience, I certainly wouldn't wanna always keep up on them and keep avoiding certain wash products. In the long run your best off investing in aftermarket wheels.
