Just finished installig a new GMcrate 5.7 in my 97 yukon, cranked 5 sec. and fired rite off. Ran it enough to check for leaks(Yes I burged the air out of the water system through the heater hose at the block) all is good! My question is since to pcm d takes care of the timing do I need to do anything else before I button this puppy up and go bust some bugs. Thanks

If the truck has a distributor, then the base timing has to be set. But I can't tell you the correct way. Mark.

Can anyone one tell me how to set the base timing?

You actually have to try any get on the right gear, and then the dealer has to zero the timing with the tech II, yes the precise timing is done by the PCM. I know it sucks but its the only way to really get your timing set. Believe me I have tried to do it any other way but when installing a the dist blind you just cant do it.

However, once it is set, if you mark the dist, you can take it in and out as long as you line up the marks when you put it back and it will be right on.
