I am not sure where exactly I should put this, but I just received a letter from GM asking me if I would allow them to use my vehicle ('03 Avalanche 2500 w/8.1L) for 5-10 days for testing. It basically says that the vehicle will be tested at the Quantum Technologies lab in Lake Forest, California and will be tested through driving simulations and for pollutants.

 

As a result, I will receive a loaner w/ unlimited miles, a check for $150, and the vehicle will be returned clean with a full tank of gas. Has anyone received a letter similiar to this or is it a scam?

Why would they want to test an '03? Pollution information on virtually all vehicles is available because of the state emissions inspections. All that data is captured and analyzed. If this is all the letter states, it doesn't sound very legitimate. Did you get a phone call as well? What kind of loaner? Are you supposed to deliver it there(to CA)? Does someone show up at your house with a 'loaner' vehicle and your supposed to exchange keys???? Sounds extremely fishy to me. You may want to call your local police and see if there are any scams going on that they know of that sound like this. I would bet they tell you to not go along with it. You may want to report it to your states attorney general's office. If it's legit, you'll find out soon enough from them.

You could call GM (don't use any phone numbers that are on the letter) and ask for more information reguarding this letter. That would tell you if it's coming from GM or not.

 

Maybe they're testing the 8.1 cause there going to come out with another big block

Here is a copy of the letter ... another thing I just noticed is the response goes to ATDS at Ontario CA and not to GM Headquarters. Also it is kind of strange they would ask for the Year, Make, Model, Engine Size, and Transmisson Type when they should be able to already have that info from the VIN #?

 

 

 

What phone number or email address should I use to contact GM to see if this is really legit?
