Cant Turn Volume Down

I have and 01 Sierra with the speed compensating radio, has cd and tape deck. I am having problems with the volume control. When you start to adjust the volume it will go full volume and no matter how far you turn the control knob the volume will say at full. After it has been off and sat for a while you can adjust it carefully, sometimes this will be days before it will adjust, and after so in an hour or so if you touch it, it goes max again. I have tried it with the speed compensation both off and on , seems to make no difference. I did notice the lights for the first two channel buttoms are no longer lighting up, dont know if this has anything to do with it, its the upper and lower buttons.

No steering controls. All adjustments have to be made at the radio.

It sounds liek either ur radio is biting the dust or if you have a factory amp something could be wrong with the amp but more likely its the radio
