Integrated Brake Controller (2008)

I have read the threads here, and on the web, and understand the integrated TRAILER brake controller was not an option in 07 on half tons. I see that it is now for 08. Does anybody have a pic of an LTZ dash with this contoller? Also, possibly a VIN so MS3DALE can pull me a part number? I want to attempt to put one of these in my truck. If there is any info out there on this, it would be appreciated!

Back when I was looking for a brake controller for my truck, I asked the parts guys at my local dealer. They told me it has to come in from factory. They will sell me the other brake controllers that everyone else carries, but if you dont have the integrated controller installed at the factory, you cant get it.

That's what the guy on DTC said as well; it's strictly a factory option and dealers won't install it. If that's still true and they don't intend to change that policy then it's very unfortunate. I don't like any of the mounting options for the aftermarket brake controllers.

Here's a picture of it: brake controller. Scroll down to post number three. I'd love to throw one of these in.

hmmm that just links to a log in screen for DTC, I see no posts

I don't expect the dealer to install this, I will do it myself. I simply dont want to bolt anything on or under my dash

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

Some customers may request that dealers install the factory Integrated Trailer Brake Controller on their 2007 or 2008 Full Size pickup when the vehicle was ordered without RPO JL1.

Recommendation/Instructions:

This is to advise you that if the vehicle does not have RPO JL1, it can not be retro-fitted with a factory trailer brake controller.

Bulletin 06-08-45-008 or later advises how to install an aftermarket trailer brake controller on vehicles NOT equipped with RPO JL1.

Bulletin 07-08-45-001 or later advises how to install an aftermarket trailer brake controller under certain conditions if the vehicle IS equipped with RPO JL1.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.

Thanks Rich, I do understand this and had already read it. Do you know if there is a part number available for the dash unit? I do understand, I am willing to waste the money and see if I can do this, if not, I will Ebay the unit and move on...

Thanks

Let me look and see, honestly I wouldn't mind adding one of these myself,I'll let you be the ginea pig though :D

OK alaska here's a couple part numbers for you...

15926102 is for the switch itself,89047352 is for the connector for the switch, they don't list a harness itself so it'll be up to you to make your own and splice it into the existing dash harness.

You also need a new knee bolster (The part under the steering column) I need your VIN or interior color code to give you the correct number for that.

I don't know what else would be needed....fuses,connectors,a reprogram of the BCM maybe?

You know what alaska....I just thought of this,You probably would need a BCM reflash because the DIC in the dash displays the gain (+ & -) for the controller. I've played with a couple at work and I remember seeing that.

What little nook Will?

It goes on the left-hand side of the steering column.

Also the reason why dealers will not install it.....**SAFETY ISSUE** It wasn't there from the factory,GM does not have an accessory kit out for it,and since it has to do with the braking system its a huge safety issue if somethings fails.

I was told it went in the little area where the four wheel drive switch usually goes. The GMT900 Denalis don't have anything there, since they're either AWD or 2WD. Have I been told false information? False information on the internet???
