'04 Esc. Vs. '07+ Esc.

Since gas is going up and up, wife and I trying to decide between keeping the '04 Esc. ESV or upgrading to a new '07+ Esc. ESV or '07+ Denali XL. Getting 14.5mpg, about 60/40 highway/city, in the '04. Seems to be pretty much in line with the newer 6.2's and 6spd auto. Searching here seems to be mixed, some high mpg, some lower, much lower than our '04. Any real data or experiences with others who have had both. Is the power vs. more gears mean any real differences or benefits to mpg? Other option we are looking into is a GMC Acadia or Traverse when they are available. Thanks, Chris

Well I don't have an Escalade, but I do have the Sierra Denali with the 6.2/6 speed combo and AWD. You say you're getting about 14.5 MPG with the '04? That's about what I get in the summer with my truck. The 6L80E is a great transmission, but it doesn't return amazing MPG numbers either. If you're just looking at this from a fuel economy standpoint, I can't see justifying the upgrade (of course if you're looking at new Escalades, fuel economy is probably only one factor in your decision). If I was in your shoes, I think that I would wait for the Escalade hybrid to be released and see what kind of reviews and MPG numbers it gets. If it lives up to the hype, you may be able to have your cake and it too That's just my .02 cents though. Good luck!

im a caddy and hummer mechaninc, ya thats bout the right mpg. but their not too fond of the 87 octane. but have boatloads of power
