Holes Are Gone! Pics And Questions Pertaining To Them!

Hey fellas! First off, thanks to everyone who helped me decide what to do especially Marko! I went to the body shop and had them weld sheet metal in... and then I am off to the spray liner tomorrow!! I do have a question though... What do you think these holes were for? The first hole nearest to the truck were the very small holes and the last two were the dime sized holes. My guess would be that the last owner had a toolbox of some sort with the short length drill mount bed rails accompanying it. Any other guesses or do you think I am about right? Anyhoo, here are some pics.... I am going to add more goodies here and there soon!

the second set row of th sheet metal was drilled through too so.... it had to be a long screw

Maybe there was an old stripper pole platform mounted there? It'd be a good story at least.

I'd have left it in place myself.

Joey thanks for the recognition - I'm doing a resto on a 1967 Mercury and all holes that are unneeded get welded. It's the only way, especially nowadays with mig welders being so easy to use - it's almost like filling a hole with a glue gun.

I think you will be happy knowing that there is metal where metal should be. When I was a teenager (far too long ago) and learning about body work the book I was reading said that paint doesn't hide defects, it highlights them. I made lots of models as a kid (that's where my brain cells went I'm sure) and that was certainly true! There is no substitute for a job done right.

BTW I really like the looks of your rig - I'm sure you will be very happy with it. Good luck with the dog - I'm about to get one myself.

If it was indeed a stripper pole, I'd have probably done the same. But in this case sounds like "last call" was called some time ago....

Appreciate it man! They said they could not weld in the second layer of the sheet metal because it would heat up the outer panel (The metal under the top ones) but, they said it would not affect the rails in any sort of way so they just put some adhesive filler in those (they aren't visible anyways). I will post new pics when I get back from the line-x dealer (the spray in now is Arma, which is the same process of line-x). They line-x guy also told me that he was going to spray the adhesive filler before he sprays the rails so I am happy overall and cannot wait to see the results! Thanks again guys!
