Fuel Pump Question?

Hi guys. I just put a fuel pump on my 2000 Sierra. I ran it around the block to make sure it was running alright. When I pulled back in my driveway and got out, I could smell something hot, like wiring. I put my hand up on the pump and neither wiring harness felt hot. Do these fuel pumps smell like that when they're new until they're broken in? I'd hate to have a fire at the fuel tank. That could get ugly. Thanks

Does the '00 have a clip for the wiring? If so, did it disconnect easily? And, did it smell like electric fire?
