1997 Silverado Oem Ac Delco Radio Display Lighting Problem

Hello all! I'm having trouble with my OEM AC Delco radio cassette head unit in my 1997 Silverado. Some of the display lights went out and I tried replacing them with some bulbs from Radio Shack. The first attempt was with Radio Shack bulb #272-1154. All went well until I put the reassembled unit back in. Now I have no working display lights. I can still see the clock though! LOL

Second attempt was with Radio Shack bulb #272-1092. Same result! I have even tried A SECOND HEAD UNIT from the wrecking yard and it even has no working display lights! What gives? I have followed every instruction I have been able to find online and this thing still doesn't work. Every other function on the head unit works fine, and I even checked the fuses next to the driver door, specifically fuse #14 for radio illumination.

Is there anything else besides the bulbs which might be causing this problem? I have noticed that the AC Delco CD player underneath the Heat/AC controls does not display either. The ashtray light appears to be out as well. I have now bought two different set of lights and tried this twice. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!!!
