Speaking Of Tata

Back in the 50s and 60s when you could produce fragile and relatively slow but slick looking cars and sell them these cars were a hit. Since most of the British manufacturers either sold out or went bankrupt, there has been a general whoring of the marques. It's sad but just a simple business management issue. If those companies had produced a competitive product that was marketable and reliable, they would have never been in that situation. The same holds true for most any publicly offered product line. We just get more emotional about our cars!

Yeah I think its kinda sad to see Jaguar in the situation they are in right now. My step-dad has a S-type and I think its a pretty nice car. One thing I must say is that Jaguar dealerships are probably the nicest I have ever seen. Everybody is nice and polite and they deal with you like a normal person, no trickery or crap like that. The sales people were always honest and we always we in and out in good time. Also the dealership we go to has been awarded so many awards for customer service its unbelievable.

At least now they have a nice car, the XF. My step-dad was invited to an early showing of it and so I went with and I must say, being 16 and liking that car is pretty impressive. It just has that right mix of modern and classic designs that make it look really nice and also it uses no Ford parts which is nice too.

One cool fact about Jaguar is that they specifically tune the exhaust notes to match the car. So a S-type will have a different exhaust note then a S-type R which will have a "racier" exhaust note and then the S-types will have a totally different exhaust note then the X-type. They have a whole studio dedicated to how the exhausts will sound. Now I just think that is so cool.

My post was not a cut on British cars. I love old British stuff... Give me an old TR-6 or early E-type and I am happy. It might run 10 days out of the year but those 10 days are going to be filled with pure mechanical joy! I once had a TR-250 and it was a sweet old car. Had a 57 Jag XK140 and a 49 MGTD once too. they were interesting vehicles to say the least... but fun nonetheless. When you get to be my age (48) and have been a car nut all your life, there have been some interesting cars come and go!

I've included a small pic of a couple of them.
