Noobie Question

Hi there!

I'm missing near an inch of Dex Cool (considering the "low cold" mark should be the middle of the surge tank, right?) and wasn't to sure about the concept on the 4.8

Last car I had, you had to refill it via a stopper mounted on the radiator, not trough the surge tank.

But where's the stopper on the 4.8 ? The manual doesn't mention any. Should I refill trough the surge tank ?

thanks!

The reservoir is where the stopper is right? :uhoh:

Haha, yeah. But still, there was one on the surge tank in my old car as well.

Unless there is air in the cooling system, indicated by gurgling heard in the heater core, your radiator should be completely full. Any loss or gain would be shown in the reservoir level. Top off the level cold to the minimum in the reservoir and there is enough head room for heat expansion. Completely normal to lose an inch or less of level in the tank over a year to evaporation.

Mine rides at the lower mark when cold and about the middle when hot. Never has changed so I left it alone. I only have 6000 miles on the truck. If you aren't losing coolant, I would probably just leave it as is and keep a weekly check on it.
