07 Silverado Not Starting?

Yup, having some starting issues with my Silverado. Fun stuff.

When I just got the truck in July, maybe two days after it decided not to start. I would turn the key and nothing would happen - no noise, no cranking, nothing. Then after a few attempts, it would start and then die. A little message came up saying, "Service Security System" on the display. I grabbed the other set of keys and they worked fine and started the truck no problems. So I phoned the dealer and he said they'd look at it next oil change.

Well they looked at it later on that year and they said there were no problems.

Since then, every now and then (not daily, just at random) when I go to start the truck, nothing happens. I'll turn the key in the ignition, the radio will come on, but when I turn the key all the way nothing happens. No noises, nothing.

Today, I tried to start the truck and it wouldn't start. Then I tried again and it started and quit after maybe 2 seconds. It took about four times with no response and finally it started. Dealer says there were no codes last time, but he will look at it again this oil change. I have the feeling he will say the same thing again.

Any ideas as to what this is?

Either an issue with the chip in the key, or the chip not being read correctly? It seems like it is mechanically working, but the ignitiion etc is not active. I wonder if the dealer can read the status out when you are there? Being intermittant is not going to be helpful though!

well ive had it happen to me once and it just happened the other day to my brother were we sourced a power from a fuse in the fuse box for an accesorie switch and when we removed them they wouldn`t start, there was now too much clearance in the fuse holder and the fuse wasn`t contacting, its a real easy check to go around wiggling fuses and if they are loose, give the fuse a bit of a twist on the tangs if you find one loose, just an idea(:

Are you using the same key every time? If so try your other key. I had a problem with one of my keys not being programmed correctly and it would turn the ignition but not crank the truck. The method to program is to turn the truck on with the key that starts it everytime, turn the truck off, insert the second key and start within so many seconds. I'm not sure of the exact timeframe but the dealership cut me a new key and I watched them program the new one. Seemed straight forward to me. But just guessing here.

I don't know about GMs, but Ford will clear the codes after a certain number of successful starts. It may be necessary to take your truck to the dealer right after the no-start issue occurs rather than waiting weeks/months for your oil change to come due.

I agree. If you really want the problem fixed, bring it to the dealer immediately. If you keep waiting until your next oil change you'll never solve the problem. Put the heat on the dealer to fix it NOW.
