Rear Axle Seals - Ring Gear Diameter?

I went to AutoZone the other day to purchase parts to replace my rear axle seals which are leaking on my 95 K1500. He asked what size ring gear I have and I had no idea. I don't recall my choices but he said the diamter is located on a tag attached to the differential carrier. I crawled under the truck but could not locate said tag. Anyone know where this tag is?

Hhhhmm thats funny that the auto parts guy mentinoned that cause I just switched out my rear in on my 99 K1500 and there was no tag...

 

But to see at least if you have the same rear end as I did look in your glove box on the sticker with all the codes.

Look for code GT4 for 3.73 gears it really shouldnt matter what size the gears are but I would say that the ring gear in your truck is 8.5" if its a 10 bolt!

 

I know that there was a 7.5" ring gear rear end but I think that one is in a camaro but I am not 100% sure.

 

I think that the only other ring gear size that might come up would be 9.5" but you would have a 14 bolt rear end!

 

Hope this helps, you can always call them up and ask them to check the axle seals for the 7.5" and 8.5" there is a chance that they are the same. I think that I am almost a 100% sure that its 8.5"... Thats what mine was...

It'll be 8.5" unless your K1500 is a 6.5TD. The diesels used the 9.5" 14 bolt semi-floater in the 1500 series. All other 1500s used the 10-bolt 8.5". (OK, except the 454 SS, but those aren't 4x4s, so they weren't K1500s).

Thanks for the info all. From the searching I did my guess would have been 8.5". I will go with your input and purchase the seal kit for an 8.5".
