Exhaust Pipe Diamater

Okay..I have worried about this real bad for the past few weeks and I know it would help to get some smart opinions. When I bought my truck it had a Flowmaster 70 series Dual in/Dual out and I noticed the pipes going in to the Muffler are a larger diamater than that on a 1500, however I recently had the pipes redone from the muffler back. When the guy at the muffler shop did it(I wasnt there) he ran 2 2and1/4 inch diamater pipes out of the muffler to 2 5inch tips. Is the 2and1/4 diamater pipe enough exhaust flow for my truck. I am also about to purchase a CAI and a W4me tune. I really hope the exhaust is fine, I can tell no power difference, but who knows, It might not be enough. :)

I am very confused...Thanks in advance for all of the insight

I wouldn't worry about it at all unless your a NASCAR driver driving the engine at a constant 8,800 rpm. As the exhaust gases cool, they take up less room. That's why the stock system has 2-2.5" pipes into the muffler and 1-3" pipe out. No worries.

How does the 70 series sound?

It is very quiet, Im sure there is some quieter but i have had a 40 series on alot of vehicles, and the 70 is much quiter than them. I like it because going down the road bout 65 or 70, I can actually hear myself think.

Mine is 2 in and 2 into 1 out-is that what you are talking about-the 2 out then combine to a single 3" pipe?

Should be alright. Might have a little pop to it.

00 - 06 2500HDs have 3" duals into a DI/DO muffler ( 3" inlets & outlets ) and a 3.5" tip.

My truck has all 3" pipes & mufflers, with a 2.5" H pipe crossover, and 4x12" tips.

How does it compare to the stock muffler?

I assume you have the 6.0?

Sorry it took so long to reply...But yes, I do have the 6.0 and it is noticably louder than the stock muffler. What I was getting at was that it is quieter than most I have heard, since I have a few friends with the 6.0 with 40 series and other ones and theirs is much louder. going down the road at about 70, I can hear the exhaust, but it is not much at all, not enough to where the radio turned low cant drown it out...hope that answers your ?.
