Trailer Wiring Question.

Hello,

Is it safe to assume that the 12V power wire coming out of the back of the #4 position Bargman plug is regulated 12V power? The vehicles are a 2001 Suburban 1500 4x4 and a 2007 Suburban 2500 4x4. The power source for this wire on both vehicles comes from a 40A fuse block located in the under-hood fuse panel but was curious if they are indeed regulated. The reason I am asking is because I want to keep the the deep cycle marine battery charged in my trailer when towing but do not want to overcharge/cook it.

Thanks,

-John

No, it is battery power. On the older trucks, it will be 14.5V when running. on the newer trucks, it will be less as they have regulated voltage control. Short answer, what ever the alternator is putting out is what is on that line.

Thanks for the reply BlueGorilla. So, can I assume that it will maintain the battery in the trailer(when hooked up) just like it maintains the battery under the hood of the vehicle or will the trailer battery get overcharged? Sorry for all the questions, electrical is not one of my strong points.... ;)

Thanks,

-John

It will maintain a charge. It will not overcharge them as it will only get 14.5v Max. No problem. electrical is my strong point, well one of them.

Thanks for the reply/info BlueGorilla. Looks like I'm all set then!
