well today my brakes went out today after a carwash.......there is a crack in the back line right by the frame.

 

But already i have replaced the Wiper pulse module, the door handle cracked yesterday, and i found out the washer fluid tank is leaking...... and a few other things that have me spending money i really dont have right now......

 

hopefully its just these few things and that that i can have few to no problems in the near future

hang in there Riggs, it's just the 100,000 mile blues. The little things will pass. I am sorry about having to spend the cash in a short amount of time

Yep,Hang in there...Everything you mentioned is totally normal for the GMT400 trucks....The wiper module,door handle,brake line and even the washer bottle cracking,all normal "wear" items for your truck.

 

There was actually a recall on the wiper module for certain year & VIN trucks,yours "might" be involved and it just never got done.

 

Also...word of advice while your under there replacing the brake line,If the DOT uses a lot of salt in your area in the wintertime,Check your fuel lines coming from the sending unit,We see a lot of these rusting and leaking,especially the feed line between the sending unit and fuel filter.

Just noticed one of mine was rusted thru last week. Got oil + filter today at ricer zone and got priced $60 for a set. No thanks I can live with one strap

Hey Riggs, it's like MS3DALE quoted,things don't last forever. My '99 has had brake lines, 2 sets of calipers and rotors, fuel pump, cam/crank sensors twice, and oh yeah, the dreaded busted door handle, and my tailgate, although it's a utility bed, has rusted off the hinges. I know things alway's happen when you seem to be low on cash, lately, i've been real low on cash. One other thing I forgot to mention was the infamous intake gasket leak. Had mine done twice. Goodluck buddy.

Huh!..$60 bucks!?!?

 

Go to your GM dealer,Ask for one of each cable...Part number 88980509 & 88980510,And two washers...Part number 15224331.

All together you'll have about $30 bucks in everything.

 

Its just a matter of time before your other cable breaks,Besides...did you get the tailgate cable recall done on your truck? If not,and if its affected,you can get the cables replaced for free.

well ill hopefully have it fixed this weekend......

 

and then im going to try to swap out the door handle, i got a new one for $20 brand new... im really good at taking the door panels off since i do it all the time but ive never done anything with the handle itself

 

 

 

 

i know you guys always say dont fix what isnt broken but what should i start to look for and fix? the truck has 125,000 and i would really like to get it in tip top shape when i can still somewhat afford it before gas gets to like 4.50 a gallon

Riggs, don't go replacing parts because you think they might go bad. Trust me, that will get expensive. I have 159+k on my '99 and the only sensors I've actually had to replace were the cam/crank sensors. I started replacing all kinds of crap trying to troubleshoot, and not one of them were bad. My O2 sensors are original, the cats are also. Still has the factory exhaust on it, and still sounds good. Just my .02.

Hang in there dude. It's just a rule of life, that when you buy a used vehicle, it could have had nothing ever go wrong with it before, but once it changes ownership something has to break. Within the first 6 weeks of getting my truck, I had the alternator, and power steering pump go, and then I was good for another 7 months till the fuel pump crapped out. Now 6 months later, I have a bad cat, one of my power window switches stopped working, I've got a bad u joint, and the hood release handle snapped off. All this has happened within the last 2 weeks. It's just how things work though, they come in waves, you just gotta hope it's all little stuff.

well i got the new brake lines and i also got some new sparkplugs and a fuel filter so it should be running like champ soon enough

Maybe if the plugs and fuel filter you change to are installed in a Honda Civic.

well the plug i took out was pretty bad..... and i have no idea when the fuel filter was changed last.... i guess i can just hope for the best. i was just asking because alot of my friends with almost the identical truck are getting 350-400 miles on a tank... and are way harder on the gas than i am

I was just messin with ya Riggs. What size tank do you have? 26 gallon IIRC. You should be able to easily get 300 miles out of it.
