Gas Mileage Down...

Are new tires and the A/C enough to cause a loss of 1-2 MPG?

Usually I get somewhere between 15.5 16.5 MPG, but on my last fill up I only got 14.4 MPG. Tonight when I pulled in the driveway, I was just a tick or so above empty and had 262 miles on the trip odometer. Usually, I have at least 300 miles before I'd get close to the red.

My mileage on my '99 C2500 with a 5.7 vortec is never consistant. I use to check it at every fill up. I'd get almost 13 to 14 in one tank, and then 11.6 on another tank. Of course my truck weighs in at 6,500 lbs with all my tools in her. It all depends on your driving habits. imo of course.

YES, tires can cause that much of a drop in MPG. My wife's Jimmy used to get about 22 consistently on the harder Continentals that were on it (crappy tires, unfortunately they were on it when we bought it). When I put the BFG All-Terrain TA/KO's on it, the mileage dropped to about 20.5-21.

I filled up today and now only got 13.6 MPG. Record low, last time I saw numbers like that I was towing a 2,500lbs trailer.

I did some research and you got to be careful which pumps you go to... You got to stay away from the pumps that state that the fuel can contain up to 10% Ethnol. They do that trying to make the fuel go further but definately not for us....

Update, today I filled up and got 16.1 MPG. I've been using the A/C and driving like I've always have. :uhoh:

Are you alway's stopping at the same gas station for fuel, or do you fill up at different ones? That could have a lot to do with it. I get better mileage using Marathon than I get when I used BP. I stay away from discount gas stations. I just don't like them. I have found, that if you frequent the same station or brand, that your mileage stays a little more consistent. just my .02.

:uhoh: This is one that is out of your control, but do you think it could just be something got into the tank at the gas station?
