2003 Aftermarket Deck Won't Turn Off

I've had an aftermarket sony deck installed in my 2003 Silverado for about a year now and about two days ago it stopped turning off after key was removed and the door was opened. The only way to get it to turn off is to remove the faceplate. I was thinking that the sensor for the door opening might be sticking but I dont think that is the case because it will stay on the entire time and won't shut off after the usual 15 minutes without the key in the ignition.

 

Is there a wire in the wiring harness I can check? Or is this a problem with my ignition?

This could be a lot of things.

 

If whoever installed it used a chime & RAP (Retained Accessory Power, keeps your radio on until you open the doors) module when they installed the radio, the module might be malfunctioning and keeping the radio turned on. It could also be a defective head unit.

 

You can check these yourself with a voltmeter. Pull out the radio and find the red wire that goes from the module to the head unit. If this wire has no power when your unit is on, then the head unit is defective. If it has power, then temporarily disconnect the pink wire from the module and check the red wire again. If it still has power, then the module is defective. If the red wire loses power then, your problem is somewhere else.

Thanks for the quick response. After posting I went outside and took apart the dash and pulled the radio out. First I unplugged the radio and plugged it back in and it still did it. Then I disconnected the harness (the RAP you mentioned) and plugged it back in and then plugged the stereo back in and it seems to have fixed the problem. I'm guessing the RAP was malfunctioning and needed to be unplugged and plugged back in. Hopefully it doesn't start doing it again or I will have to get another one to replace it.
