Bose Sound System - Options For New Sub And Speakers

Recommended Posts

I have a 2006 GMC Yukon Denali....To be very blunt...the Bose sound system sucks....

1.) I want to replace the sub. Does anyone know where it is and what size it is?

2.) Any recommendations on what sub to replace it with?

3.) Can the replacement sub run off the Bose amp provided with the Denali, or do I have to get another amp?

Thanks for you help!

1) In the center console, its either a 6.5" sub or 8" sub. (Not totally sure about the 2006s)

2) Anything that will fit and that you like the sound of.

3) I would bet that it could but it would probably underpower the sub then and you would have the same lame sound.

I don't think replacing the sub will offer much improvement. The amp is underpowered and bose compensated for the lousy sub by lowering the bass when you turn up the volume. I believe it is a 6" sub. At least it was in my 08 Denali. You might be able to get away with a sub and an amp with speaker level inputs. I opted for a JL Stealthbos in the console and I am very happy with the results. I replaced all 4 speakers and the sub and added a JL Cleansweep to clean up the lousy bose equalization.

Adjust your EQ so the Bass/Treble are maxed out, Mids are about half, set it to the Rear soundstage, and only listen to high quality CD's (ie. No XM/FM!). Beyond that, you'll probably want to do a lot more than replace the sub!

With the right adjustments, I've gotten my Bose system to sound "respectable." Or at least enough to keep me happy until the vehicle is paid for and I can justify throwing a couple grand into a new stereo.
