2006 Suburban Clunk On Acceleration And W/trailer Help

Recommended Posts

I am in need of help desperately. I bought a 2006 Suburban brand new in 2006. Drove it for about 20k miles, no problems. Then it started to make a nasty clunking sound as follows.

1. Clunk (metallic deep "ping") on take off from a stop light under moderate to heavy acceleration.

2. Similar sound when towing a trailer. While under acceleration uphill AND going over bumps, there is a creaking sound in the front suspension.

3. Occasionally makes the metallic clunk sound when you are just coming to a complete stop under heavy breaking.

I have 4.10 gears (aftermarket) installed, and the problem cropped up after about 5,000 miles following the changeout. The dealer has looked at the problem 4 times and found nothing. The intermediate steering shaft has been replaced twice. The dealer heard the noise and said it's not the yoke.

Is there a problem other than the steering shaft that anyone knows of?

Thanks

Greg
