Well Known Brake Problem

Frickin ay!!!

I just spent an hour talkin' to US and Can GM customer service over a recall that was issued in the US and "some" CDN provinces (central and eastern) in '05 over the failure of the ABS system (false activation causes a dangerous delayed stop at slow speeds). Because I live in BC, I DON'T get the recall service and have to pay out of pocket to disassemble the speed sensors, clean everything up, and possibly replace the sensors if they break on disassembly (at $160 CDN per each of two, :D ). I'm going to try and remove/clean them myself before giving the work to the dealer but what a crock by mighty GM. This is another motivation to switch to Toyota when this '01 Silverado bites the dust. Any helpful hints are appreciated as I tackle this job.

Sounds like a great trouble free solution to me  . I'd bet with some sweetness you could talk GM in to fixing it for you. At least at a greatly reduced rate.

I had mine in a month ago for that. lol they cleaned the corrosion around the wheel speed sensors and that was it. At least I didn't have to pay for it. Sucks for BC residents though.
