Convert 05 Silverado To Real Dual Exhaust?

Recommended Posts

Have an 05 Silverado 1500 5.3L V8

Just been toying with the idea of converting my truck a real dual exhaust.

I like the quad tip look out the back.

Right now I have a magnaflow cat-back system installed.

A single Super40 with dual outlet coming out the side

Which is now right under my nerf bars which, I added later lol

Stock Cat-converter

Now I realize I could use that same single muffler to do what I want with some more tubing.

But thought while I was at it I might convert the system over to a real dual exhaust system.

Read on some sites:

1) Gives you a nicer sound

2) Adds some more power

3) "More Efficient" but they didn't say how lol

I also read about possible problems with O2 sensors but from what my predator is telling me this thing has 4 o2 sensors so I don't think that would be an issue but I haven't physically inspected yet.

I'd like to hear what anyone thinks of this idea.

Worth making it a real dual system?

What will I get out of it?

Problems with my idea?

Thanks guys,

Kenny

well you wont have a problem with o2 sensors if you leave the cats there

it adds a little bit more power, but if you make it too free flowing you lose torque. but if you keep the cats on and have mufflers you dont have to worry about that one bit..

its kinda up to you weather you want to have a dual exhaust or not, seems like youve already find the info you need, up to you now.....

hmmm thanks riggs.

What about gas mileage any noticeable change one way or the other?

probably no significant difference in MPG... but if you go true-dual... dont make the pipes bigger then 2.5".

also make sure you get an X-pipe or H-pipe to equalize exhaust flow from each pipe.

My truck had 3" dual exhaust pipes factory into a DI/DO muffler. The guy before me put in cats and a louder DI/DO mated to the stock 3.5" tailpipe. I had dual Super 44 mufflers installed with 3" tailpipes and 4x12 Magnaflow tips.

I didn't feel any noticeable loss ( restrictive Flowmasters ) but I had no gain what so ever and my gas ileage dropped a tad. I think if it was a 2.5" system it would have been a little better.

My F150 has Magnaflow true duals X piped with Magnaflow 11" mufflers on it. Much much better performing system than my Chevys H piped true dual Flowmasters. Stick with Magnaflow you should be alright.

I say 2.5" X piped true duals, Magnaflow 14" mufflers, 4x18 tips.

Great appreciate all the info guys, think I'll start putting some plans together :)

One more thing, my muffler is SI/DO Anyone think it would be an issue just capping off one of the outlets and reusing the muffler?

Thanks,

Hey anyone know of a kit out there? with or without mufflers?

Every dual kit I'm seeing is single muffler.

custom job it is my friend. :uhoh:

That's what I thought, but I didn't want to say it and have someone say something like:

Beej. You're an idiot. Flowmaster's best selling kit is a true dual. As a matter of fact, everyone on here has it. It was a prerequisite to join. :rollin:
