Leaking Steering Seal

I have a 2007 Sierra 2500HD Duramax with just 9100 miles and noticed a small collection of fluid on the ground this evening. I looked underneath and it appears the fluid is coming from the round seal (~2 inch diameter) in the steering mechanism (under the U joint looking arm). I have recently moved up to SD (3 mos ago) and the vehicle has been Arizona up until that time. It has endured temperatures from below freezing to over 90 today and hasn't been run very much in the past 2.5 months as it's primary duty was hauling our travel trailer and commuting to work. As I have just retired from the USAF and haven't found work yet it is not being used much at all so could this leak be from the limited use over the past couple of months and climate change? It's still under warranty so I'm going to take it in; I was just trying to justify to reason for the leak as it has so little miles. Please advise.

If you are getting enough fluid leaking that it is dipping on the ground then you likely have a similar problem to mine. You can review my post from July2nd called 'Steering Gear Oil Leak' for more info. I've now bought the replacement oil seal (just an O-ring) and today I plan to open it up and see.

If you do take it in to the dealer and get it fixed, can you let us know what parts (gm part number) were replaced to solve the problem please?

Thx

I'll take a look at your posting and certainly give you the part number and details of what they did. It may take a couple of days depending on how early the local dealer can get me in.
