Break In ?

Hello all I'm new to the forum! Just a quick question, Will it hurt anything for me to tow my enclosed trailer before the 500 mile break in process? I have about 160 miles on my 08 Z71 4x4.

Nope.... I would change the oil afterwards.

Read your Owners Manual, I states not to tow anything for 500 miles. Modern engines are not hot test run at the engine plant and are first started up on the assembly line. Save you self a lot of grief and wait.

If you need to tow soon get the 500 miles on the truck, your not just breaking in the engine but the trans, & differentials. I have seen new truck that have towed without a break in and destroyed the transmission. If you need to tow get it broke in by driving it, you should be able to put 340 miles on it in a couple of evenings.

if you do have to tow, take it easy on the brakes (no hard braking) and the engine/tranny. Slower speeds, gentle acceleration and deceleration. Ideally, try and get the 500 miles prior to as this allows the brake pads to wear in a bit, and the engine and tranny bearings to do the same.

Yes. Wait the 500 miles before towing to alow the proper break in. As for changing the oil.... This would depend on how far you would be towing. If it is a short trip, I'd wait till after. If your gonna take it on a good 500mile journey, I'd change it now.

 

 

As anal as I can be....I'd probably change it before and after.
