De-chroming

Some of you might have done this or know how to... I want to take the chrome off my '04 chevy grille and paint it black. I'm not a to big of fan of chrome. I know th SS grilles are painted but finding one is either hard to find or buy one for more than what I'm really looking to pay.

sand it down really good rough it up then shoot it with some good primer and paint it then clear coat it with good clear coat
