I have seen those advertised, I wonder if there is anything to it.

Your best bet is to replace your worn plugs with new AC Delco Iridium plugs that were in there in the first place. The engine were designed around the spark plug used for maximum efficiency. Stick with those and you'll have the best luck and no extra problems (Like burning holes in pistons because the plugs are too hot)
