Drver's Door Assist Strap Broken 1989 Silverado

Help! I just purchase 89 Silverado, Luv the truck. The door assist is broken and can't find. Also, the tail gate latch is malfunctioning. Pull the little cover off and is manual pushing the rods to keep tail gate closed.

the tail gate might be as easy as bending the rods slightly . i had to bend the rods slightly on my 88 to get it to open and close right. the strap on door if thats what your reffering to might be a junkyard find .
