Nelson Performance

Just as the topic says....should I give Nelson Performance another chance or not?....I don't know if you guys remember my post from the spring, but basically we couldn't ever get the tune to work right due to a Service Stabilitrak Message......we tried sending ECM and TCM's back and forth about 3 times, and then gave up due to no success...

The reason I ask if I should give them another chance is that I will be coming thru the San Antonio area this next week, and was wondering if it might change the outcome since they could have my truck in person.....

I sit with No Tune at this point.....

What do you all say?

Supposedly the difference in customer service when you stop by is night and day. From what I hear Nelson caters more towards the local live tuning crowd. I'd call him up and say your going to be in the area and see if you can get an Appt.

Why did you bring this up again, Jeff is going to have a field day with this :jester: jj. I would say no, you have wasted enough of your time with him.

If I was u I would try going with a different tuner, I suggest Justin at Black Bear Performance, he has great customer service. Whenever I email him he answer almost instantly and my tune on the V-Max has been great, no problems whatsoever.

With most companies that disappoint, I would look for changes that they have made in order to improved their business and close the gap to customer expectations before I would give them a second chance. In this case, it does not sound like Nelson is doing anything differently since your last experience with them, so I'd say no and find a different tuner to work with.

Just my $0.02, I don't like to reward bad business behavior and like to see a business improve where there is a known deficiency.

A live tune does make alot of difference. Alan rode with me and did the tune, and I have never had a problem. Just my 2 cents.

Just email or call Alan and tell him you will be around. Get him to do a 'live' tune. He does have good service, and should make due on it. If he wants to charge you extra for it , then no. Go for another tuner.

You have paid for it, make an appt and don't leave until it's right.

Scott (AlaskaLTZ),

Is your Nelson Tune locked? If so, can Justin overwrite it? I thought Nelson would need to unlock it before it could be re-tuned? I am still waiting for the EFI Live handheld so I won't need the cables and I can get a few different tunes from Justin. That way I can e-mail updates back and forth and also do my own crank relearns.

From what I understand, yours and mine should not be locked, we had ours done within a couple weeks of eachother. I was told he didn't start locking them until late March.

Have you heard differently?

My original one was not locked, but when I sent it in for my re-tune, he locked it. It is definitely locked now, my buddy that did my Crank Relearn tried to read it with his HP Tuners and couldn't. And yes, I DID need another Crank Relearn after my tune was updated. He couldn't explain why, but I suspect it's because he changed the security settings when he locked the tune.

When I switch over to Justin, I will need to send mine to Allen first to have him unlock it. Not looking forward to that.

Justin said he will re-tune MY PCM so that I won't have to go through that re-learn BS. When I was "corresponding" with Nelson, I had to put in a specific request to have my PCM re-tuned to avoid this. They weren't too keen on doing that for me!

They were MY modules that he re-tuned. I marked them inconspicuously to make sure. I used a Sharpie and put a small dot on the label on each of them. I asked him to MAKE SURE to not send me re-tuned modules and to wait until he received mine. He agreed, but I marked them anyway just to be sure. but I still needed the Crank Relearn AND had to do the security relearn process too. I called and he had no explanation. I also asked Justin and he suspects it's because he had to overwrite the security portion of the programwhen he locked the tune. That is probably why Allen wouldn't admit why it needed another Crank Relearn/Security Relearn. Cuz he locked it and I had to be the one to deal with the consequences.

If your passing through call Allen and tell him. This way he can correct the problem in person and do a live tune for you. Thats what I would do. Im saying this of course because I havent had any problems with Nelson Perf.
