Electrical Woes

leaving for work last friday turned the key and heard the dreaded rapid clickity click of a solenoid, signaling a low battery. it would not start. checked it and sure enough, down to like 9 volts. placed it on a charger and it bounced back to 12.7. ok, drove it all w/e. go to leave for work today and same thing happens, but this time the battery is fully charged. lights work, buzzers, etc., but turn key and all i get is the rapid clickety click and no start.

First thing you want to do is clean your battery connections and the grounds, do a voltage drop test on the ground circuit. If you have a good metre with it running go from ground post to the block if it is above .1 clean connections, then test power circuit from the battery connection to the alternator post, sane thing anything above .1 you have a dirty connection. PLAY SAFE!

checked voltage to main battery w/ motor off, of course, since it won't start. 12.4 volts. Hummmm... Then w/ the VM still attached, turned key and voltage on meter quickly dropped down to 5 volts. So i replaced the battery. Problem solved. Seems it was still the OEM battery from 2001. Not bad for an AC/Delco, given that it got heavily used, charged and discharged a number of times owing to ham radio use, winching, etc. Now she fires up w/o hesitation.
