I dont no exactly what kind of stereo you have, so the actual harness might differ, but for mine (on star, without bose or navigation in my 08 sierra) you need the Peripheral GMAHLAN interface, it retains onstar and your door chimes, if you dont get some type of interface you will loose onstar, door chimes, low gas chimes, and signal noise so you really want to get one

Yes, replacing the stereo head unit will affect OnStar and numerous other features. Also if you have an OEM amplifier, that is affected as well. You'll need adapter harness(es) from http://www.pac-audio.com/default.asp (the insert link feature isn't working for me atm).

What kind of truck do you have do you have Bose or Onstar, XM, steering wheel controls?? If so than yea you will need a harness for each of them I had to buy about $300 just in wires to make everything work in my truck
