I have a 2006 Trailblazer 4.2L I-6. I have recently replaced an outer axle seal on the passenger side, while replacing my dad, who is a former mechanic and I inspected my whole rear end and everything seemed to be in working order, no excess of metal shavings, nothing looked worned down or broken. But after everything was reassembled there is now a whining coming from my rear end and I can't figure out why it is doing this, also it only has 41,000 miles. Can anyone suggest the root of the problem or a solution?

And for the second issue that I have no clue on being electrical inept, daignostic code P0449 keeps popping up, I know it is the Vent/Valve Solenoid but I have heard that it can be fixed by getting a new gas cap is this true or should I just get a new solenoid?

Thank for any help.

What specific steps did you take while replacing the seal and inspecting the diff. There are lots of things that if you remove and reinstall and set up wrong you can cause a noise. Try and list step by step what you removed what you inspected and how you reinstalled the items.

A p0449 is an electrical code not a leak code, a cap isn't going to do anything. If you don't want to get it diagnosed a valve would be the most likely suspect for replacement.
