Soft Suspension

I have an 06 crew cab 2wd silverado with the 5.7. The stock suspension is so soft that the truck has a lot of body roll when cornering or stopping. It is only 2 years old with 36,000 miles and has done this since it was new. What can I do to improve the suspension. It does not have tortion bars to be tightened.

Installing Bilstein 5100 series shocks all the way around will fix your problem.

Also, right now air your tires to the high side of pressure, and when they wear out, install a better brand of tire.

Tire pressure (and type of tires) will make a difference. GOOD shocks will too. Standard factory shocks are good for about 12000 miles... at best.

Keep in mind that this is a forty bazillion pound top heavy vehicle. It's never going to handle like a car. (but you can make really big improvements)

I have good Michelin tires and I run the pressure a little high for a smoother ride. What shocks do you recommend? What about air shocks so the ride can be customized? I know it's not going to ride like a car but I want to get rid of the body roll. I have had 6 other silverado's and none had body roll or a soft suspension ike this crew cab.

Never heard of running more air to make a vehicle ride better. That's exactly opposite of what I have experienced. Higher tire pressure will generally make a ride harsher and more stiff. Anything over about 35 psi on a regular half ton passenger tire is overkill unless the truck is carrying a lot of weight. Beyond that and the tires wear in the center prematurely.

Air shocks won't alter the ride quality much at all, they are for additional load carrying and leveling. All they will do to the ride is stiffen it when they are aired up, The valving inside a shock determines how a shock works. A good set of Bilstein, KYB, or even Monroe shocks are a huge improvement over stock.

I think if you're really serious about getting rid of body roll, a stiffer front sway bar, and adding a rear sway bar are your best bet. It'd be best to start out with a good set of shocks though, and go from there.
